If you’ve just moved to a hurricane zone for college or a new city and have never lived in one before, it might be a little bit scary being over there as one is brewing. So, we’ve put together a list of the things you need to make sure you have in your apartment or house that will make sure you are safe and entertained!
The Necessities:
- One gallon of water per person per day for at least three days, for drinking and sanitation
- At least a 3-day supply of non-perishable food (things like bread, granola bars, etc.)
- Radio with fully charged batteries (the one in your shower should work well)
- Flashlight
- Candles and a lighter
- Moist towelettes (so if your plumbing goes out… well, you get the idea)
The Fun Stuff:
- Your closest friends and/or your beau (ever heard of a hurricane party? This is how it starts)
- Board games (Ouija, Monopoly, and Sorry are all fun, plus they won’t wear down your batteries)
- Magazines
- Ingredients to make hurricane cocktails. You could just stock up on Pat O’Brien’s Hurricane Mix and just add rum, or you can make a homemade one with this recipe from thebar.com:
0.5 oz. Captain Morgan® Original Spiced Rum
0.75 oz. dark rum
3 oz. passion fruit juice
3 oz. mango juice
2 oz. sweet & sour mix
1 lime wheel
